Minoxidil Plus+ Intense (Low alcohol, PG-free)

I really wanted to love this, so here is my honest and detailed review (woman).

Tldr: great ingredient profile but the formula feels too oily

Positives:
The ingredient list is genuinely impressive: caffeine, retinal, azelaic acid, resveratrol, rosemary oil etc. I also liked the selling points such as low alcohol content and no propylene glycol. Price wise, it works out cheaper than brand name Rogaine, so I was excited to try it.

I’ve been a long term Minoxidil user and have seen great results when used consistently, so this review isn’t about effectiveness. My main issue has always been an oily scalp and since this formula is marketed toward that concern, it felt like a perfect match.

Medicii dispatched my order quickly and it arrived within a week. They even emailed to confirm my Minoxidil history and check whether I was on other medications which I appreciated. Overall, a positive experience with the company.

Negatives:
Unfortunately the formula feels quite oily. I apply with precision by parting my hair and using a cotton bud directly on the scalp, but even with careful placement it still left my roots looking greasy (even on freshly washed hair). I found myself needing to wash my hair more often or keeping it in a ponytail/bun which is the opposite of what I was hoping for.

The instructions recommend applying twice daily, which is different from most women’s formulations that advise once daily. I continued with my usual once-a-day routine, at the same time, I can’t even imagine using this twice-a-day without my scalp looking extremely oily. It also smells a bit like apple cider vinegar which eventually subsides, however something to keep in mind if you apply it in the mornings before work.

Because I’m only using half the recommended amount, my three pack will expire before I can finish it. The four month expiry is quite short and you lose about a week to shipping. Unless you order single bottles more frequently, the timing doesn’t really work.

Final thoughts:
As someone with an oily scalp, the hardest part of staying consistent with Minoxidil is keeping my hair looking presentable. As much as I appreciate the thoughtful ingredient list, the star of any hair growth formula will always be Minoxidil itself. I’ve never had issues with alcohol, propylene glycol, sensitive scalp or irritation, so I might not be the ideal customer for this product. I don’t think this formula is well suited to oily scalps. I’ll be going back to Rogaine foam, which works best for me in terms of keeping my hair clean longer. I’ll still use Medicii on hair wash days or days when I don’t need my hair to look fresh.

Suggestions:
I would love to see a version with the same beneficial actives but a higher alcohol content and lower amounts of glycerine, jojoba oil and rosemary oil, as I believe these seem to be contributing to the oily texture. I genuinely appreciate the Medicii team for creating a more innovative alternative to traditional Minoxidil products, and I hope they consider a lighter formula for people with ACTUAL oily scalps.

I have been sheding a lot of hair the past few months and after trying numerous hair loss products, minoxidil plus intense has been the pivotal point to helping me regain my confidence. It has a very light alcohol scent and doesn't cause dandruff or scalp irritation. I highly recommend it.

Minoxidil Plus Intense dries more quickly than its original minoxidil plus solution but I find this still gives me a tiny bit of stinging that lasts for a few minutes. Perhaps my scalp is just more sensitive. I will go back to the original minoxidil plus solution because it was personally more pleasant for my scalp. I highly recommend it as a very low alcohol option, and I also like the fact they didn't come out with a 2% solution which apparently doesn't work that well anyway but improved on their original product offering.

This one dries much faster and is much preferred for me personally. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to try the new version. Great combination of ingredients and great customer service.

When I found out about minoxidil plus intense, I was totally excited to try it. The solution is so easy to use, it's once a day instead of twice a day; and the best part about it; it doesn't cause my scalp to itch like crazy. The formula is smooth and dries super fast.
